Frequently Asked Questions

What happens during a consultation call?

If you are interested in learning more about me and my practice we can speak by phone for 15 to 20 minutes. You will have a chance to ask me questions about my style or practice, and I will get a sense of what concerns you hope to address in therapy. If it feels like we might be a good match, and I have an opening that works for both of our schedules, we will set up a session.

What happens during the first session?

The first 50- minute session is a chance for you to get a feel for me and my chance to answer any questions you may have about the informed consent and other intake forms I need before we begin. I will also ask you to share what brought you to therapy and hear more about your goals. I often include a mindfulness-based grounding exercise to help us both ‘arrive’ in the room or virtual space together.

Can I pay for therapy from my Health Savings account (HSA), FSA, or HRA?

Yes, these ‘tax-advantaged’ accounts are a good option for paying for therapy and it is always good to double check the limits of your account.

What is a superbill, and why would I ask for one?

A superbill is a receipt I can provide for your therapy sessions. Depending on your insurance plan and deductible, some of your therapy costs may be reimbursable directly by your insurance company. Many PPOs (Preferred Provider Organizations) cover therapy expenses of out-of -network (OON) providers. Your policy provider can answer your questions or you can go to Mentaya.com and enter your policy information to learn more.
